This is true but for most the power of manifestation is limited. Manifesting something requires several things: 1) A complete understanding of who you are, 2) An energetic balance in all three levels of your being: mental, emotional, and physical, and 3) Keen mental focus, emotional discipline, and the right motivation. Let’s face it. If it was easy everybody would be doing it and we would all have whatever we wanted, right? This obviously isn’t the case and the teaching in this workbook will give the student the tools necessary to achieve the energetic balance The Secret requires for success. What is an energetic balance? The science of quantum physics tells us everything in the universe is made up of energy, including all physical matter. Psychology tells us there are four personality types or temperaments: Choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic, and melancholic. Ancient wisdom teachings tell us all things in the universe are made up of four elements: fire (choleric), air (sanguine), water (phlegmatic), and earth (melancholic). These are just words describing the energy that makes up the universe and the above psychological terms describe what energy is predominating within us human beings. Somebody who gets angered easily, for example, has a choleric temperament and the principle of the fire element is out of balance and is the dominating energy. It is important to understand that the use of the terms fire, air, water, and earth are necessary in order to gain insight into our energetic selves and will be in use in this training. The main force in the universe is electromagnetism and includes light, heat, and matter. This force is tetrapolar, or 4-poled. The electric aspect has a positive and negative pole and the magnetic aspect has a positive and negative pole. This fundamental force goes hand-in-hand with the four elements and the four temperaments. The terms you decide to use for your this training will be left totally up to you. They all describe the same fundamental energy that we will be working with in this course. Also, the mind corresponds to the fire element or the electric aspect. Our emotional body corresponds to the element of water and is the magnetic aspect. The interplay between these two is the air element and all three together form the solidifying aspect of earth or what we know as consciousness. When balance is achieved with all four aspects of our being we will then have the foundation required for manifesting. Why does this work? Who are we? The Bible tells us we are all created in the image of God. That image, as reflected in nature and the universe, corresponds to the tetrapolar force in everything as described above. Psalm 82:6 states, “Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.” Jesus quoted this verse in John 10:34 in His defense for claiming to be God. Jesus was telling us that we are all gods. He further says in John 14:12 “He that believeth on me, the works that I do he shall do also; and greater works than these shall he do.” You have the power within you to do whatever you want. Most of you have just been misled on where that power resides: in you. It is you! Was Jesus really saying we could do greater works than Him? Absolutely! The training in this workbook is just the beginning. Most of you will be able to complete this course in 6 to 8 months with sincere effort and dedication. You will only get out of it what you put in to it. The rightly motivated student will find this teaching very powerful indeed and will be life changing. But it’s going to take patience, perseverance, and love. Love for the Truth, love for yourself, and love for your fellow human beings. Once this course has been completed The Secret will be very powerful for you. The Practice Chapter 1 Gaining Control of Your Thoughts The first step in the process is getting your mind under control. Most of us have minds that race all over the place. Thoughts come in and we follow them like puppies until that leads to another thought and then we are off following that one. Or we have songs we sing to ourselves or listen to in our heads and often get stuck there in a non-stop loop. This first practice will teach you how to watch the thoughts as they come and go without getting caught up in them. For the practice of all the exercises in this workbook it will be important to pick an asana, or position to do your practices in. There are three basic ones. The most popular is the lotus or half lotus position or sitting Indian style on the floor or a bed. The second is Egyptian style which is a seated position in a chair while still keeping the spine straight, feet flat on the floor with your hands lying on your thighs, palms up. The third position is lying down with nothing under your head except for maybe a neck pillow. Your palms should be up open to receive. I don’t recommend lying down because it is too relaxing and could easily lead you to fall asleep. Remember, it is about discipline but it is also about comfort so you can concentrate. I also don’t recommend you do these exercises for more than 20 minutes a day at first. Have plenty of water on hand both before your practice session and after and don’t eat a large meal at least one hour before a session. 1 1) Watching Your Thoughts Sit in your asana making sure your spine is straight and your head is level. At first it will be important to keep the noise level where you will be working to zero if it can be helped. No loud voices or phones ringing. You will be able to handle these types of disturbances later and will actually help as you work through this course. Take in 12 deep breaths imagining you’re breathing in a golden, white light that permeates every cell in your body with claming, healing energy. Visualize yourself like a sponge soaking up the light. Then focus your concentration in your mind. Watch when a thought comes in. Just notice it while being separate from it. Think of the thought as a bird you are watching as it flies by. Let it go just as quickly as it comes because another thought is coming right on its tail. Keep this going as you see your thoughts come and go. Start to dismiss them quicker and quicker as unimportant and fleeting like thumbing through video files on your computer never stopping to view any one of them. Eventually your thoughts will come less chaotic, moderating little by little until they seem to come from a far distance. In the beginning do this for 5 minutes and increase one minute per day until you reach 10 minutes. When you can do this for 10 minutes without getting lost or forgetting what you are doing then this exercise will be finished for you. 2) Following a Single Thought From this point on it will be important not to let thoughts intrude upon you unwanted and obstinate. For example, when at work you must focus your attention on the issues of work, keeping out those matters of your home and personal life. Likewise, while at home you must keep the matters of your work life out of your mind. We must learn to focus our attention on whatever task we are engaged in not letting our minds wander to the future or dwell on the past. The Buddhists call this mindfulness. Eckhart Tolle calls it The Power of Now. This keen attention to thought control is very important and will serve you well as you advance. This strengthens your will power and improves your memory. A helpful trick is to set your watch to beep every hour on the hour. When you hear the beep ask yourself what you were just thinking and write it down. Were you thinking about a situation in the past? Maybe something you need to do in the future? Or were you thinking a negative thought? This 2 exercise will show you a lot about your thought process and what occupies your mind most of the time. After several weeks of doing this you will find yourself being more in the present and more conscious of your thoughts. Eventually you will not need the reminder all together. Take up your asana and breathe just as before, calming yourself and preparing your mind. As time goes by your mind will become more and more obedient to what you will be subjecting it to do. Do your pre-practice routine the same way every time as this will be the signal to your mind that it is time to get to work. After your 12 breaths of golden, white light begin by following a single thought only, keeping out everything that tries to intrude. Choose any train of thoughts or ideation that is suitable for you but do not wander off to another thought or forget what you are doing. If you can follow this train of thought for at least 10 minutes you may proceed to the next exercise. 3) Achieving a Vacancy of Mind Having succeeded in the above exercises let us move on to achieve a complete vacancy of mind. Sit in your asana and after your 12 breaths keep out energetically any thought that comes into your consciousness. You will find that thoughts or ideas come from two places: in the back of the throat and in the head. You must remain vigilant and focused at all times during this exercise. At first you will only succeed for a few seconds. But with practice you will get better at it. When you have succeeded at this for 10 minutes without losing your self-control or falling asleep you will have completed this exercise. Some students will see success after about a week while others may need as much as a month. Achieving a vacancy of mind is very important for the work ahead. It will be necessary to have a keen, sharp mental focus as well as an unshakable volition. Remember, The Secret tells us that we can manifest whatever we focus our attention on. If we have thoughts coming at us from all directions then we end up focusing on many things. Energetically, this is tantamount to running in place. 3 The above exercises prepare and strengthen your mind. Hand in hand with the mental development we must also develop the emotional and physical body. All three levels of our being must be developed equally or limited success will be the result. 4 Chapter 2 Transformation of Your Temperament 1) Cataloging Your Strengths and Weaknesses It will be important to have a journal (I have attached one for your use in the back of this workbook) for not only tracking your progress but to catalog your strengths and weaknesses. One section will be for writing down the result of every practice session whether a success or a failure has occurred. The other section will be for listing the positive and negative qualities of your temperament and should look something like the following table: 5 Fire (Choleric) + - Air (Sanguine) + - Water (Phlegmatic) + - Earth (Melancholic) + - 6 A very important axiom in ancient wisdom is Know Thy Self. In fact, it was inscribed in the forecourt at the ancient Greek temple at Delphi. The practice of getting to know ourselves deals with our souls or our emotional body. Most of us at one point or another became so overwhelmed with emotion that we acted without thinking. Later, when calmed down, we wondered why we acted that way. This is from an imbalance of energy in our emotional body and without precisely knowing where this imbalance exists there will be no real development. This part of your journal will be the control book for you. It will be where you will document your failures, passions, habits, instincts, and other ugly character traits. You must take a hard and severe look at yourself being careful to write down everything with abject honesty. Think about yourself in quiet meditation, looking into the past at situations and how you behaved. It will be important to do this introspection every day in the morning and at night. Also, during the day when you are about your normal activity record faults as you become aware of them for entering into your journal later. The very top of the table you will want to record those traits that happen at the slightest instance and influence you the strongest. The middle of the table you will put those traits that happen less frequently and to a slighter degree. The bottom of the table will be those traits that happen only now and again. For example, hatred, anger, jealously, vindictiveness will be ascribed to the negative aspect of the fire element. In the positive category of the fire element you will ascribe traits like courage, enthusiasm, steadfastness, and boldness. Some of the negative aspects of the air element would be: boasting, squandering, gossiping and the like. Positive air element traits would be: optimism, joy, kindness, and diligence. Negative Water element traits: laziness, shyness, insolence, indifference, negligence. Positive traits: tenderness, compassion, modesty, forgiveness, tranquility. Negative earth traits would be: dullness, laziness, consciencelessness, irregularity. Some positive earth traits include: responsibility, punctuality, thoroughness, endurance, and respect. From the above examples you should get a good idea where you will ascribe other traits you discover about yourself. You should succeed in a week or two in discovering the majority of your traits. By then you will see an energetic blueprint of your Current Energy. Spiritual work or development is not about doing something. It is about undoing something. God created us as perfect beings with the ability to create whatever we wanted. Unfortunately, most of us 7 have created for ourselves a structured belief system of who we are that dictates how we behave and function in this world. This structured belief system is called the Ego, the little “I”, or what I call our Current Energy. From birth we began creating this ego as we learned to function in our environment. Our family, friends, and people who have influenced us contributed to the formation of our Current Energy we have become. The word “persona” comes from Latin and means “mask”. Our personality is simply that energetic mask that all of us wears and is a sophisticated network of energy blockages, imbalances, and short circuits created unknowingly by us powerful beings. Spiritual work seeks to undo all of this mess. It is a process of getting back to ourselves. It is what we do to allow us to operate from our Core Energy, who we really are. It is the return of the Prodigal Son. Now you can see why The Secret might not be very effective for most of us. If our computer system is haywire and in a tangled mess how can it function properly? If we are focusing on trying to manifest something from this false self, what do you think will be the result? 2) The Breath When we breathe we are not just taking in oxygen that nourishes our physical body. We are inhaling a finer etheric substance that nourishes our soul. The Secret teaches what we think about and focus on the universe will bring to us. This communication is accomplished via the etheric substance that permeates all things. Even though our egos are doing most of the “thinking” there is still a part of our Core Energy that plays a role. This is why The Secret may work to a lesser degree now and again. We have always been connected to Source and always will be but we have to untangle the energetic mess and through balance allow the energy to flow properly. Get into the position in which you like to work. Now imagine the air you are breathing is full of success or health. On every inhalation feel the air is dense with your ideation and is penetrating your entire body and soul. The air and the etheric substance must be strongly impregnated with your desire as if it were already a reality. During the exhalation imagine the negative energy leaving you. It will look black and feel thick. Breathe in the positive energy and breathe out the negative. Belief that this is happening is key. This is why we have to start with simple and easy desires. A desire for success in this training program will be more powerful right now than desiring a bigger change like a new job or partner. Those bigger changes will come later, believe me! When you complete this 8 training program you will think and feel differently so what you desire and want for yourself will be different as well. Start with seven inhalings both morning and night and increase one inhaling every day until you get to 10 minutes. Use this technique for success with achieving a vacancy of mind or for finding more character traits that might be still unknown to you. Work with one idea until that idea has been fully realized then you can go onto another. You can also ascribe a color to the air like we did in the beginning of this workbook. A golden, white light has all of the colors of the spectrum with joy and abundance thrown in for good measure. Green would be used for health and healing. Blue would be for increasing your will power. Yellow would be for increasing wisdom. Violet would be used for transmuting negative qualities and releasing their influence on you. Use whatever you need to gain a belief in the power of breathing. That belief is the most important part for success to be achieved. 3) The Magic of Water Water is magnetic. It has a very strong ability to capture and hold our thoughts and desires. This quality of water has been documented recently by a man who is considered an expert on the subject: Masaru Emoto. He has written several books about the magnetic qualities of water and has captured many photos. We can use water in two ways for our purposes of transforming our temperament. The first use is during bathing. We simply have to imagine a certain characteristic trait that we want to be rid of being pulled out of our body by the running water of our daily bathing. With full belief and conviction imagine the water as a magnet running over your body attracting the negative quality out of you and down the drain. Feel that this is happening. Another way to use this technique is in a bathtub with Epsom salts or the ocean. The salty water is even more powerful. The second use for water is to find a good quality bottled water that hasn’t had the minerals taken out. Natural spring water will work best. Just before you drink the water imagine it being permeated with your desire like, “My will power is unshakable” or “I am successful”. Affirmations need to be in a positive form like the ones I just mentioned. Don’t use ones like, “I don’t get angry” or “I am not stupid”. Instead say, “This water is pure calm” or “I am very intelligent.” As you drink the water you must clear your mind of all thoughts except the one you are working with. Feel that thought and know the water is absorbing the powerful energy you are putting into it. As the water goes into you 9 body feel this energy being released to every cell. Your belief and conviction will carry your wish exactly where it needs to go. Step by step you will achieve success. One important note: when working with the breath and water in this way it will be important to concentrate on one particular desire at a time. This means if you are working on anger you will want to use the breath and the water for the same purpose. It will sometimes be easy to jump around using the breath for one desire and the water for another. Use all of the techniques we will be discussing here for the same goal at the same time. This method will find better and quicker success for you. 4) The Conscious Reception of Food The eating of food holds another valuable tool we have at our disposal. Just like the water we drink, the food we eat can also hold our thought forms. Sitting down in front of your meal, concentrate and form your desire and know it is embodied in the food. Eat slowly and methodically and feel your desire permeate your body as if it were already a reality. Try to do this in a quiet a place as possible. Now a days we like to eat in front of the TV or carry on a conversation with the people we are eating with or even while driving! Sometimes it will be unavoidable to have peace but do try to put forth an effort when possible to be by yourself or with a friend who is doing the same practice as you. If you are at your office try to eat at your desk with the phone turned off; or in your car in the parking lot. The Catholic Church uses this technique in the form of Communion. “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 5) Auto-Suggestion Normal consciousness is active in the cerebrum of a human being. The subconscious is active in the cerebellum which is in the back of the head. Our consciousness is active with the concepts of thinking, feeling, the intellect, memory, reason, etc. All things in the universe have two poles, or a negative and positive aspect. So the subconscious is active in a contrary way and is therefore our opponent. The use of auto-suggestion helps us battle the subconscious. The subconscious is all about what we do not wish for. The subconscious is active and most penetrating at night when we are sleeping. The best way to influence the subconscious is just before we go to sleep when we are in a drowsy state. This also is true just upon waking in the morning when we are still half asleep. This is when we will give our 10 subconscious a phrase stated in the present imperative form and in either a positive or negative sense. Phrases like, “I do not get angry” or “I do not get jealous” are fine. The subconscious works differently and the use of “do not” will work just as effective as the phrase, “I am always calm.” Repeat whatever your phrase is over and over taking it with you into sleep. Never go to sleep with worries or anger as these will have an unfavorable influence in the subconscious. You should always go into sleep with positive, peaceful, and pleasant thoughts if you can help it. Another way to use auto-suggestion is in the mirror. Look at yourself staring directly into your eyes and say your phrase with conviction and believe it to be fact. 6) Pore Breathing Pore breathing is the act of breathing in through the pores of your skin. This may sound a little odd to some of you but with practice you will be amazed at what you begin to feel. To make pore breathing easier and more noticeable it is important that you use a horse hair type of hair brush, something rather soft, and brush your entire body with it. Afterwards, take a face cloth and wet it with cold water then rub your body down with it. This will stimulate the nerve endings as well as open up the pores. Then sit in your asana and do your 12 calming breaths. On the next inhalation imagine you are breathing in through every pore on the surface of your skin. Keen concentration is vital to this exercise and probably should not be tried until you can achieve at least five minutes of vacancy of mind. But slowly you will begin to feel a tingling on your skin on every in-breath. What you are doing is breathing in the Vital Force or Chi. In the beginning you might want to concentrate more on your hands as this is easier to accomplish for beginners and will quickly prove to you the veracity of this exercise. Our hands already hold quite a bit of energy. That is why we instinctively put our hand over our knee, for example, when we bang it on something. It feels good to hold our hands there because we are sending healing energy into the wounded area. When I was practicing the exercise of pore breathing 11 into my hands 15 years ago I had to open my eyes and look because my hands felt as if they had swollen to the size of cantaloupes. When you get to this stage in the practice you can become a very effective healer. When you have achieved a level of success with the above exercise where you are starting to feel the vital force entering through every pore of your body you can then start to impregnate that energy with a desire such as success or good health or the transmutation of a negative character trait. When you use all of the tools I have described above, together for one desire, you will see success very shortly indeed. Before moving on to the last part of this training I want to say a little bit about the physical body. It is important that we achieve a balance with all three levels of our being. This is the mental, emotional, and physical. The body, or rather physical health, cannot be overlooked. There are sufficient books in the area of physical health and diet so I will leave it up to you which type of exercise or diet program will fit you best. It is important that we maintain flexibility of the body in our joints, muscles, and nerves. A yoga routine three times a week will work nicely as will 15 minutes of daily calisthenics to include walking or riding a bike. Take care of your body. It is the vessel that holds the rest of you. 12 Chapter 3 Balancing Your Senses Energetically The third and final section of this training is another very powerful technique at your disposal to help bring yourself into balance energetically. I’m referring to the five senses: visual, auditory, sensory, taste, and olfactory. Each of these senses is tied directly to one of the elements. Visual=Fire, Auditory=Air, Sensory=Water, and Taste and Olfactory=Earth. Most of you will have a proclivity to one or two of the exercises mentioned below. It’s a matter what energy is prevailing in you and what energy you need to unblock. The information you will gather about yourself in doing these sensory exercises will help you establish, along with the cataloging of your strengths and weaknesses, where you are out of balance. As you continue with all of the exercises in this workbook you will systematically bring everything into balance. I recommend you not try any of the exercises that follow until you can maintain at least 8-10 minutes of a vacancy of mind. If you have not yet achieved this level mentally you will only become frustrated. 1) Visual Our physical sight and mental imagery are aspects of light which belongs to the fire element. This exercise will help you gain control and to balance this energy within you. It is like the back door to mastering the energies within you. Find a simple, small object that you can hold in your hand. Preferably something that doesn’t have any writing on it. When I was first doing this exercise I used a blue stress ball like a racquet ball. Memorize every aspect of this object in detail. Once you have it memorized take up your asana and 13 after the 12 breaths of calming, with your eyes closed and in a vacancy of mind, try to imagine that object in your mind’s eye. You will probably only succeed for a few seconds at first. But with practice you will be able to hold it longer and longer. When you succeed in being able to hold this object in your mind for 5 minutes then try again with another object that is different in shape and color. See how that works for you. When you can hold any object you wish in your imagination for 5 minutes then this exercise will be completed. 2) Auditory Our hearing is an aspect of the air element and practicing this exercise will strengthen and harmonize this energy. Take up your asana and begin hearing the sound of a ticking clock. Make sure you don’t “see” a clock in your imagination. If you do you must banish this imagery immediately. We only want to work with the auditory principle here and our concentration must be completely on that. When you have succeeded in hearing a clock for 5 minutes without interruption then try something else like the sounds of the ocean, a train, or rain falling on a tin roof; whatever you wish. Make sure you do not visualize anything while doing this exercise. Once you can hear anything you attempt for 5 minutes then this exercise is completed. 3) Sensory This exercise will be working with the element of water. Take up your asana and focus your attention in your abdominal region. Induce the sensation of warmth. Be sure not to visualize a heater or something like it in front of you projecting this warmth. You are in a complete vacancy of mind and you know what warmth feels like. Make it happen. At first the sensation will start out as a small point in your abdomen. As you concentrate further it will spread and eventually take over your entire body to such a degree that you start perspiring. Once this is achieved then try the sensation of cold. Then move on to other sensations like hunger or the feeling of being tired. My personal favorite is the feeling of love. Years ago when I was doing this exercise I was trying to induce a feeling of love. I started in my heart region and began making myself feel what it’s like to be in love. The sensation started to grow. I began projecting this love outward and it grew even more. 14 Then all of the sudden my heart chakra completely opened and scared the living daylights out of me because I had no idea what just happened. The sensation lasted less than 10 seconds because when I got scared my heart chakra shut down the waves of ecstasy. I didn’t know what had happened at the time so I stopped doing my exercises for awhile until I found somebody who explained to me what had happened, much to my delight! So, have fun with this one. You can even use this technique at the beach or on a ski trip where you need to either cool down or warm up. When you can manage any sensation you like for 5 minutes then this exercise is completed. 4) Olfactory The last two exercises in this workbook deal with the element of earth. Just like the previous three exercises take up your asana and imagine (I say imagine but be careful not to actually use any imagery) you can smell your favorite flower. Then move on to your favorite cologne or perfume. Obviously you will not want to have any fragrances on your body when doing this exercise. Then you can try your favorite food cooking or paint. When you can succeed with holding any smell for 5 minutes then this exercise is completed. 5) Taste This last exercise is the sensation of taste. Start out with general sensations like sour or bitter, salty or sweet. Once you have sufficient success with these then you can move on to specific tastes like chocolate, an orange, or whatever your favorite food might be. Remember to not use any imagery while practicing this exercise. Eventually you will find yourself salivating uncontrollably. In fact, you can use this exercise late at night when you are craving your favorite treat. Sit down and make yourself taste what you are craving as if you were actually eating it. In 5 minutes you will feel completely satisfied without having eaten anything! When you can hold this sensation for 5 minutes this exercise is complete. 15 Chapter 4 Conclusion I mentioned earlier that I first started doing these exercises about 15 years ago. This practice came to me when I was at the lowest point of my life. The teaching seemed odd to me as I’m sure some of you might feel. But I sat down anyway and began the first exercise and found that my thoughts were all over the place. I said to myself there was no way I could ever achieve a vacancy of mind let alone make myself smell something that wasn’t actually there! The wisdom behind the theory made some sense so I plugged along putting every effort into it. Little by little I began to see results which encouraged me even more. By this time I had cataloged pages of strengths and weaknesses which showed me exactly where I was energetically. I began working on myself utilizing the tools in Chapter 2 above and when I was able to hold a vacancy of mind for 10 minutes I began with the exercises in Chapter 3. Eight months later I succeeded in accomplishing all of the exercises I presented here in this workbook and my life had completely changed. I saw several friends that I hadn’t seen since I began this practice and all of them said there was something very different about me. That I had this glow about me and was calmer with a strong air of confidence. I was seeing people’s auras. It would look like willowy colorful smoke coming out of the tops of their heads. It was very faint but noticeable nonetheless. My intuition was much stronger and clearer. I was the happiest I had ever been in my life. To you, the reader of this workbook, I love you very much. I hope you seriously consider the information contained herein. My testimony is from direct experience from doing these exercises and how they changed me. Just give them a serious effort for 8 months and I promise you will experience wonderful and powerful things as I have. I wish you all the success on your journey back to your True Self!
